I was actually going to do it. My dream of a church involved in missions was coming to fruition. Four of us from my home church along with over 30 other christians were going on this mission trip to two remote villages in the Guyanese Interior. I was so excited to see so many other christians, most of whom I hadn't known, passionate about sharing the gospel.
Over the last few weeks I had seen God move in miraculous ways, providing the $3500 I needed for this trip, the extra funds to purchase a backpack, in which somehow all my clothes for 9 days would fit comfortably. I got vacation leave from work to go on this trip, and even got my contract renewed; something that I didn't even know I would have gotten when I had first trusted God to go on this trip. I didn't need to be sold on missions. This was my heart's desire, yet somehow in these final hours doubts started creeping through my head and tiredness started taunting my body.
Sunil and the other directors of Samaritan Outreach Ministries International had asked me if I was interested in coordinating the young men's ministry. This was a new outreach for this team, filled with the Holy Spirit I accepted. I knew it had to be by the leading of the Holy Spirit; else I'd have been running scared in the opposite direction. I believe God taught me a lot about dependence on Him in preparation for this ministry, one for which I could hardly prepare. I was blessed to be working with such a willing and faithful group of young men in this ministry. I hadn't met one of them as yet, Steven a Bible Major from Pensacola Christian College - but I knew that God would already be working in each of our hearts and spirits getting us in tune with what he would want us to do. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared - scared that I'd make a big mess of it. This is the story of our Mission to Yarakita and Hotoquai through my eyes.
